Even though, Sony pioneered the 4K resolution in smartphones via the Xperia Z5 Premium, the device is reportedly using the resolution only for selected apps.The latest “Sony Xperia Z5 Premium” is reportedly the world's first smartphone to feature a 4K display. The handset has recently been introduced at the IFA 2015 event and it comes with a pixel density of more than 800 ppi. Here are the key features and specifications that make the device stand out.
Design
The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium features a metal frame, along with glassy front and back panels. According to Phone Arena, the metallic frame has been polished to shine to the level seen in the customized luxury watches. On the rear, a gold-colored layer apparently sparkles beneath glassy surface. Apart from the gold-layer, this device can also be availed in silver and black hues.
Moreover, the handset’s power button houses a fingerprint scanner, which is faster, precise and easy to use. The smartphone is also water-proof and comes with front-facing stereo speakers.
Display
The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium includes a humongous 5.5-inch IPS LCD display, bundled with a 4K resolution of 2,160 x 3,840 pixels. This translates to a pixel density of 806 ppi. In comparison, the recently released handsets come with 2K resolution and their pixel densities have not crossed 600 ppi mark yet. Sony's synonymous TRILUMINOS display technology is also part of the device to offer excellent color accuracy.
Processor, Software And Memory
The Xperia Z5 Premium comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, backed by 3 GB of RAM. This is the same SoC seen in the Xperia Z3+. On the software end, the handset runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, straight out of the box.
Furthermore, the device comes with 32 GB of in-built storage capacity and microSD card support for further expansion of up to 200 GB.
Camera And Battery
The Xperia Z5 Premium sports a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera unit. According to Phone Arena, the new sensor’s best aspect is apparently the hybrid auto-focus system that lets the camera to focus an object/person/environment in just 0.03 seconds. Apart from this, the software for the image stabilization feature has also been improved. However, the optical image stabilization option is reportedly missing in the device.
The handset also comes with an Intelligent Auto mode, Manual mode and the usual flavors of Panorama, Slow-motion and Burst modes. At the front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chats.
Speaking of battery capacity, the Xperia Z5 Premium comes equipped with a solid non-removable Li-Ion 3,430 mAh unit.
